The Anchorage Holiday Cottage Pembrokeshire
The Anchorage holiday cottage in Pembrokeshire is a large new house sheltered in a narrow valley only 50 meters from the high tide mark. Because it is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park it has been built to retain the outward appearance of two stone cottages that previously occupied the site. Grants were available to restore the old cottages but as the doors only came up to the owner’s shoulders and the interior space was small it was decided to demolish and build afresh. A large interior has been obtained by adding a dormer roof and an extension at the back. Although appearing like two houses on the outside, the inside is a modern house with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a shower room, large sitting – dining room with large modern fitted kitchen. There are two indoor play areas for children upstairs with a safety gate. The Anchorage holiday cottage comfortably caters for 10 persons plus there are two cots for babies. There is ample parking on asphalt for 5 cars and lots of on grass parking for boats. An outside hose for washing and hooks for drying wetsuits are provided. The house is rated “child friendly” and no charges are made for heating and energy.
Outside there are two acres of garden. Immediately in front of the house in a secluded area surrounded by trees is a patio garden with raised flower beds, garden furniture and a stone and slate BBQ (The Monks Garden). It is a popular sheltered spot to enjoy a quiet meal. The gardens are terraced and above the house is a childrens play fort – Fort Sandy. This is a popular camp site for children as rabbits and a fox may be seen as well as many birds. A trail leads through woodland to another terrace where tall menhirs or standing stones have been placed.
The Anchorage holiday cottage is ideally situated on the Pembrokeshire coast path which passes the front gate. Please see our things to do in Pembrokeshire suggestions.
